The mission of Ocean View Elementary, a caring school which values the diversity of its students coming from distinct communities, is to ensure that our learners become confident self-directed and cooperative with skills that will enable them to maximize their potential in our ever-changing society.

The building that we are occupying opened November 1974, as Eastern Passage Junior High School. The Junior High closed its doors in June of 1999. In September 1999, the building re-opened as Eastern Passage Senior Elementary. On April 1st. 2000, the school was renamed Seaside Elementary School.

The "Tallahassee" was a twin screwed metal steamer. Its top speed was twenty knots, making it one of the fastest and most maneuverable ships of the day. In August 1864, after a successful 10 day cruise, the ship was in need of repairs and supplies. She headed for Halifax where news got out about her location and all available U.S. Navy ships were sent to intercept and destroy the "Tallahassee". To escape the U.S. blockading fleet Wood, the Tallahassee went through the supposedly unnavigable Eastern Passages and escaped the fleet.
